Why values in business matter?

AmCham Latvia speaks with Aigars Milts, Country Manager of the leading insurance broker and risk management consultancy firm AON Baltic on what it takes to build a values-led business.

Why do you think your customers choose AON?

Those Aon clients who think about sustainable development of their business choose business partners with similar values. Our customers and business partners value open communications, transparency in their business and fair trade. Our partners appreciate our experience and expertise in various types of insurance and the opportunity to receive the most competitive solutions for their individual needs.

How to build trust with your clients?

We always try to work in the client's best interest. First we evaluate their risk profile and requirements, then create the most optimal solution for them. In an honest dialogue we constantly seek ways how to add value to the customer's business and evaluate our performance by requesting their feedback.

When choosing our clients, we approach companies with a solid financial position and good reputation and our cooperation is always based on the long-term cooperative principles where fastness and one-off benefit is not essential. The most important for us is the customer loyalty and commitment in the long term.

What is the main challenge you face?

Due to changes in the business environment, the main challenge is to turn around the usual business model. As the market of insurance is changing, our company is constantly adapting to the new market requirements and becoming more efficient in every solution and in every activity we carry out. Thus we confirm the values of AON in our daily operations.

How important for AON is to serve the community?

Aon President & CEO Greg Case once said: "Being part of AON means making a difference - every moment, every day, everywhere. It starts with each of us and we can demonstrate this through the strength of our values." I truly believe in this notion.

AON values are rooted in honesty, commitment, teamwork, integrity and innovations. To foster understanding of AON values in everyday life of each and every employee, every year AON organizes the Charity day. This year employees of AON Baltic Latvian branch during the Charity day supported SOS Children's Village in Valmiera with altruistic work, care and donations.

In respect to CSR and added value to our clients, we have started to offer a strategic tool for Human Resources management - Best employer survey (BES). BES gives opportunity for enterprises to improve the efficiency of Human Resources management. The status of the best employer increases company's attractiveness among potential employees, giving opportunities to attract and engage the best and the most professional employees, thereby ensuring the continuous growth of the company.

What are your future plans?

Innovation is one of the AON core values and we are constantly developing new products and service offerings for our clients and prospects. In October we are planning to start offering a liability insurance for Directors and Officers developed by AON experts in the UK and other countries with the support of local law firms.
