Top-Tier members meet with the new Ambassador of Latvia to the U.S.

In our November Executive Leadership Series event AmCham Corporate Contributing members met with the new Ambassador of Latvia to the United States H.E. Andris Teikmanis. The Ambassador was also joined by two guests from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, namely, Māra Engelbrehta, Deputy Head of the Foreign Trade and Investment Division and Arvils Zeltiņš, Head of Foreign Economic Relations Promotion Division.

Ambassador Teikmanis and the participants discussed transatlantic trade and TTIP, the future of permanent economic representation office of Latvia in the U.S. and cooperation with the U.S. to improve business environment in Latvia and attract FDI. 

The Executive leadership program brings together business leaders from AmCham Corporate Contributing member companies to meet and discuss important developments in Latvia and in the United States, and issues critical for our cooperation. 

Andris Teikmanis is a Latvian lawyer, politician, and one of the most experienced Latvian diplomats. His diplomatic career started in 1994, when he was assigned to the post of Ambassador at Large of Latvia in the Council of Europe. After eight years in the Council, he was appointed Ambassador of Latvia in Germany, where he spent four years. Mr. Teikmanis then returned in Latvia and served as an Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2005 he returned to diplomatic service and served as an Ambassador of Latvia in Russian Federation for three years, followed by five years back in Latvia in the position of Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2013 Mr. Teikmanis was appointed Ambassador of Latvia to the United Kingdom and Non-resident Ambassador to Australia and New Zealand. Just recently, in August 2016 Mr. Teikmanis took on the position of Ambassador of Latvia to the United States. In 2000, Mr. Teikmanis was awarded Latvia's highest decoration, the Three Star Order, for outstanding merit in a diplomatic field.
