A broad coalition of organizations – the American and Norwegian Chambers of Commerce in Latvia, FICIL and the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry – gathered to reinforce the necessity to continue reforming Latvia’s insolvency system in order to provide confidence and security for both foreign and local investments. AmChams in Europe meet for annual best practices conference in Milan

The Annual AmChams in Europe best practices conference took place last month in Milan, Italy. The conference was attended by representatives of 27 AmChams across Europe with an aim to share best practices about topics including advocacy, membership, business support and the US participation in Expo Milano 2015. Participants had the opportunity to meet the Consul General of the US in Milan, Commissioner General of the USA Pavilion and the leaders of the City of Milan.

Recommendations are to the point and applicable, Latvian PM says

On September 24, the Foreign Investors Council in Latvia (FICIL) met with the Government of Latvia in High Council to facilitate a top-level discussion between foreign investors and the Government. The topics discussed during the High Council meeting included the quality of workforce, smart immigration, re-emigration, the education system reform, the legal system and insolvency process, reduction of shadow economy and the improvement of the healthcare system.

Demography, labor force and education - key concerns for investors

During its High Council meeting with the Latvian government, FICIL launched the report about the competitiveness of Latvia entitled "FICIL Sentiment Index". Key areas of concern identified by the current investors include: demography and access to labor; education, science and value added; legislation and government support; unethical or illegal behavior and uncertainty.
