The conference is convened by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the Department of Commerce, and the Small Business Administration with the European Commission's Directorate General for Trade and Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs. The U.S.-EU SME Workshop is an ongoing opportunity for small businesses to engage directly and discuss trade topics of interest with U.S. and EU officials as well as EU Member States and small and medium businesses and associations from both sides of the Atlantic.

The location alternates each year between the United States and EU. The U.S. held the SME workshop in Wichita, Kansas in October 2017. This year, the EU will host the workshop with the support of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber. Participants will include senior officials from the European Commission, EU Member States, U.S. officials, and executives from SMEs and business associations. There will be a networking reception for U.S. and EU participants on the evening of November 14 prior to the SME workshop on November 15.

Topics for discussion include policies supporting SME start-ups, SME access to finance, intellectual property protection, and entrepreneurship and workforce skills.

The draft short agenda is available here

Participants are responsible for their own travel expenses and accommodations.
