Is Latvia a place for talent to flourish?

AmCham launched its position on talent attraction outlining recommendations on attraction and retention of talent in order to tackle labor shortage. Our position is structured in two priorities: promoting Latvia as an international career destination and developing skills to reduce labor market mismatch. We believe companies in Latvia can benefit from hiring international talent, well-fit to explore foreign markets thanks to their language skills, business knowledge and intercultural abilities.

 
 
Ambassador Pettit bids farewell to members

Ambassador Pettit shared a short retrospective of her four-year tenure in Latvia with over 50 members and guests during her special farewell luncheon. Further strengthening of the defense sector, reduction of shadow economy and combating corruption were mentioned as key priorities for Latvia going forward.

 
 
What's behind the scenes of a TV studio?

This was perhaps the most exciting Business After Hours ever. Thanks to our host Encompass Digital Media Latvia, members had an opportunity to visit LNT studio and try out the role of a news anchor and a weatherman. The event also included a tour around the Encompass office and its channel control room, a presentation about the latest trends in the global media landscape and great networking!

 
 
Trust and international standards: key for medical tourism development

Over 20 representatives of 5 foreign chambers had an opportunity to join a discussion about health tourism and learn about related activities of LIAA and Latvian Health Tourism Cluster. Ensuring trust and obtaining high quality international standards were mentioned as the next essential steps to succeed in promoting Latvia as a prominent healthcare and medical tourism destination.

AmCham calls to ensure a transparent selection process of Latvenergo supervisory board

Following the sudden replacement of the Supervisory Board of Latvenergo, AmCham issued a statement about the negative impact of such actions on investors confidence. We urge all stakeholders to ensure a swift and transparent process in the selection of a professional and independent Supervisory Board in line with OECD guidelines, good corporate governance principles and best practice.

 
 
Setting priorities for healthcare improvement

14 representatives from the healthcare industry took part at the last AmCham healthcare working group meeting. The aim of the meeting was to set the main priorities the group will be focusing on.

 
 
A specialized Economic Affairs Court welcome

AmCham believes that a new specialized Economic Court would lead to the improvement of the business environment in Latvia. We are concerned about the fact that complicated economic crime cases remain unsolved for decades and therefore call the Judicial Council to support the establishment of a new Economic Affairs Court.

 
 
11 AmChams support Three Seas initiative

On June 6 at the 2019 Summit of the Three Seas Initiative in Slovenia, presidents of 11 AmChams in the countries located between the Baltic, the Adriatic and the Black seas have signed their support for better infrastructure, diversified and secure energy sources, and growth of the digital realm. The joint goal of the initiative is to build a more integrated, prosperous, and secure region within a growing Single Market.

Welcome to our newsletter. This month we hosted a farewell luncheon for US Ambassador Pettit to acknowledge her contributions and thank her for close partnership and friendship. We launched a position on talent attraction.
