Welcome to our monthly newsletter. This fall we have finally had the chance to welcome members to long-awaited in-person events - luncheon with President Levits and Business After Hours at the new RSU Anatomy Museum. The AmCham Board met with U.S. Ambassador Carwile to learn about Biden Administration's policy priorities. We also held a webinar on a successful U.S. market entry with international experts. We are delighted to announce that we will be continuing to co-host the Latvian-American Innovation Award, and we look forward to receiving applications by October 22. Coming up are more in-person events, and we'd love to see you at one of them!

The way forward for Latvia
|
|
Members were honored to join the luncheon with Egils Levits, President of Latvia who shared his main priorities for Latvia and engaged in a discussion about current issues affecting the business and investment climate. Among areas of importance for Latvia, the President highlighted education, digital skills and innovation that all require adequate commitment from the state. The next Three Seas Initiative Summit will be hosted by the President of Latvia in 2022 which will serve as a productive platform to accelerate digital, energy and transport connectivity. Read more

Doing Business in America

On September 7, more than 40 members of AmCham and the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry joined webinar "Doing Business in America" co-hosted by Blue Link Worldwide with a variety of international experts who shared practical tips for a successful U.S. market entry. The event included presentations on market research, distribution, market planning and direct company experience in doing business in the U.S. Read more

On September 8, John L. Carwile, U.S. Ambassador to Latvia welcomed the Board of Directors of AmCham Latvia to the Embassy to brief them on Biden Administration’s policy priorities and strategy for strengthening the transatlantic economic relationship. Read more

Thanks to Rīga Stradiņš University members had an opportunity to join the first networking event this fall at the newly renovated RSU Anatomy Museum. The program included an excellent presentation and museum tour as well as delicious snacks and wine. Read more

Google, a technology company that specializes in Internet-related services and products, has recently joined the Chamber as a Corporate member. Delna invites to Anti-Corruption Data Hackathon
|
|
Transparency International/Delna invites data analysts, data scientists, programmers, journalists, and other interested parties to apply for the Anti-Corruption Data Hackathon to be held on October 15 and 16. The Hackathon will use open, publicly available, and specially selected data to generate ideas and create technological or analytical products that will help to identify corruption risks in public administration. APPLY NOW I Latvian-American Innovation Award
|
|
Latvian-American Innovation Award is designed to highlight and promote entrepreneurship, research-driven innovation, and closer economic ties between Latvia and the United States. The award will be presented to a Latvian individual, organization, university, or firm that has developed a cutting-edge technology or innovative solutions in collaboration with a U.S. partner. The winner will receive €10,000 and a runner-up €5,000. Applications are due by October 22. Read more

U.S. lifts restrictions on transatlantic travel
|
|
AmCham welcomes the decision of the U.S. Administration to lift travel restrictions for vaccinated citizens from the EU and other countries starting in November. This decision will boost business and trade and will strengthen overall U.S.-EU economic relations. As of November, foreign travelers will have to provide proof of vaccination before getting on a flight as well as proof of a negative COVID-19 test performed within 3 days before coming to the U.S. Read more

airBaltic Pilot Academy welcomes 6 graduates
|
|
On September 14, 6 students graduated from the Latvian airline’s airBaltic Pilot Academy, receiving a commercial pilot license upon completion of the full-time airline transport pilot program. In addition, already the 10th group of 13 students began their professional pilot studies. Read more

Printify raises USD 45M to expand print on demand
|
|
Printify, a print on demand company has secured USD 45M in Series A funding led by Index Ventures, with participation from H&M Group, Virgin Group, founders of leading technology companies Wise, Vinted, Squarespace, RedHat, and entertainment industry investors such as Will Smith’s Dreamers VC. Printify will use this investment to further expand its marketplace globally. Read more

Accenture will train 220 people this autumn
|
|
Taking into account an increasing demand in the IT sector, Accenture is organizing additional training courses this autumn. The company plans to train about 220 people who are willing to start a career in the IT industry in the Baltics. Currently, Accenture employs around 2,000 people in the Baltics. Read more

Launch of Baltic Sustainability Awards
|
|
On September 20, Helve, Methodology By and Plan A has launched the Rimi Baltic Sustainability Awards to celebrate the innovators, changemakers, and leaders in sustainability. The aim of the Award is to highlight and honor the brightest minds and leading-edge achievements in sustainability innovation. AmChams of all three Baltic countries have become ecosystem partners of the Sustainability Award. Applications are welcome by October 20 in three categories: Impact, Innovation and Changemaker. Responsible Business Ambassadors Program open for applications
|
|
CSR Latvia has recently announced an open call for its Responsible business ambassadors program designed to cover all topics pertaining to CSR in a 3-month course with the most experienced Latvian experts. The program is targeted for both companies and entrepreneurs. AmCham members who will join the program will get 5% discount. The application deadline is September 28. Read more

FICIL meets with the Government of Latvia
|
|
On September 16-17, FICIL's held its 25th High Council meeting with the government of Latvia where investors and government representatives agreed on priority areas that need to be addressed to improve the investment environment. Investors emphasized the need for a clear action plan for governing human capital development, prioritizing the green course, promoting digitization, and strengthening the rule of law. FICIL submitted 11 position papers to the government outlining proposals in numerous areas. Read more
