AmCham looks back at a succesful year amid crisis

AmCham held its 27th Annual General Meeting on March 30th to review the past year’s activities, elect the Board of Directors and make other important decisions. The meeting took place online via Zoom platform due to the public health guidance around the global pandemic.

John L. Carwile, U.S. Ambassador to Latvia opened the meeting with remarks, stressing the importance of AmCham's advocacy activities and the close cooperation between the Embassy and AmCham in the last year. The Ambassador said: “The coronavirus pandemic has severely damaged the world economy, however, the U.S., EU and others have taken action to stabilize markets and set the stage for economic recovery. When the crisis reconciles we must work together and ensure that the recovery is successful here in Latvia, pursuing good governance, transparency and anti-corruption reforms.”   
 
AmCham President Ingrida Karina-Berzina and Vice Presidents Zinta Jansons, George Miu, Pauls Miklasevics and Liene Dubava outlined the Chamber’s accomplishments over the past year and introduced policy priorities among which will be enhancing transatlantic trade, improving the investment and business climate, strengthening Latvia as a career destination and improving health outcomes of Latvia’s society.  The AGM highlighted the importance of commitment and engagement of members, which has even a more significant role under the current unprecedented circumstances in order to come together to tackle today's challenges.
 
Ingrida Karina-Berzina stepped down due to term limits after three terms and almost 7 years on the Board. Members sincerely thanked her for her leadership and dedicated service.

The following individuals were elected to the Board to serve a term of two years: 
 
Liene Dubava, Member of the Management Board, Nasdaq Riga, Head of Issuer Services, Nasdaq Baltic;
George Miu, Cluster General Manager, Radisson Blu Elizabete Hotel and Radisson Blu Ridzene Hotel;
Dita Erna Sile, Baltic Head of Public Affairs and Patient Access, Novartis Baltics; 
Renāte Strazdina, Country Manager, Microsoft Baltics.
 
Zinta Jansons, Roberts Melbardis, Pauls Miklasevics, Ieva Racenaja and Liga Smildzina-Bertulsone will continue to serve on the Board.

Members also elected auditor Rodl & Partners for 2020 and the Election Committee for one year.
 
It was the first AmCham AGM to be held remotely.
