The knowns and unknowns of COVID-19 vaccines

On March, 26 members had an opportunity to join an online briefing on the COVID-19 vaccine with Professor Kaspars Tars, Senior Researcher at the Biomedical Research and Study Center of Latvia.

This online event provided an in-depth discussion about the development and efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine, including about different vaccine types, how they work and their efficacy against new variants.

About the Speaker:
Prof. Kaspars Tārs is a structural biologist at Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre and University of Latvia. His main interests are structure and function of ssRNA bacteriophages and applications of their virus-like particles in vaccine development. Kaspars Tārs has graduated from Riga Technical University and defended his PhD at Uppsala University, Sweden. After 11 years in Sweden, he returned to Latvia in 2007 where he is leading a structural biology and biotechnology group. Kaspars Tārs has published about 100 scientific articles, H-index 27, total number of citations 2258 (Scopus data).
