Back with a vengeance - but for how long?

On February 24, Morten Hansen is Head of Economics Department at Stockholm School of Economics in Riga and Vice-Chairman at the Fiscal Discipline Council of Latvia addressed members on the current economic situation and outlined main causes of inflation.

According to Mr. Hansen, unemployment rate in the Eurozone is at its lowest level ever and the inflation rate might reach 5% this year. He added the economic recovery after the COVID-19 crisis has been faster than expected and inflation has accelerated more than expected mainly due to external factors such as high gasoline and energy prices as well as EU Recovery and Resilience Facility that provides financial support to public investmens and reforms.

Morten Hansen is Head of Economics Department at Stockholm School of Economics in Riga and Vice-Chairman at the Fiscal Discipline Council of Latvia.
He is Danish by passport but has resided in Latvia since 1993. He is part of the economic-political debate in Latvia and the Baltics via presentations, conferences and his column at ir.lv.
