Approximatelly 2000 children in Latvia have lost the care of their own parents. SOS Children's Villages Association celebrates its 18th birthday this year. SOS Villages have become loving home for 250 children, aged 4 to 18. Currently 160 children have found home at SOS Children's Villages and they have 5 Family Strengthening projects - in Riga, Valmiera, Cēsis, Bauska and Olaine county. Families receive social workers' support, assistance of psychologists, psychotherapists, special pedagogues, lawyers and other specialists, whose services cannot be provided by social departments of local municipalities due to lack of resources. They are helping more than 700 children yearly with their Family Strengthening projects.
