AmCham supports fight against corruption in Latvia

Feb 15, 2018
AmCham Latvia is a strong advocate of integrity, transparency and accountability that are also among our core values. In order to achieve our mission to build a better business and investment environment in Latvia, AmCham has prioritized fighting corruption in our strategy for 2018 and joined the initiative of Association for Transparency - Delna to establish the Alliance Against Corruption (Alliance) in Latvia.

The goals of the Alliance are as follows:

  • Improve image of whistleblowing and increase intolerance of corruption;
  • Uncover corrupt public procurement procedures and cartel operations;
  • Whistleblower protection legislation passed in parliament;
  • Legislation introduced to encourage honest payment of taxes, curtail tax evasion and protect whistleblowers financially against reprisals.
  • To achieve above mentioned goals, the Alliance will foster closer co-operation between members of the alliance, communicate with society, organize events and push for legislative changes.

Ēriks Eglītis, AmCham President:
„Since its founding 25 years ago, AmCham Latvia has been standing for sustainable growth and the country's prosperity. We have been strong advocates for the implementation and compliance to the principles of integrity and transparency in the business environment, government and the state as a whole. Much has been achieved, yet we still face the widespread negative consequences of corruption in the country. We believe that working together Latvia can achieve a faster improvement, which will encourage the increased investment inflow, promote fair competition in business and ensure a higher standard of living for the people in Latvia. Therefore we strongly support the Alliance."

As a member and strong supporter of the Alliance, we urge our members to become supporters too. The Alliance won't be able to meet its goals without your assistance both financially and by taking part in their future activities.

If you are willing to get involved or support this initiative financially, please contact us by e-mail: amcham@amcham.lv. Note that Delna is a non-profit charitable organization.
