Are we ready for CETA and TTIP?

Jul 02, 2015

The 2nd World Latvian Economics and Innovations Forum (WLEIF) on July 10 will take place at the Radisson BLU Hotel Latvija Conference center (Elizabetes street 55).

This year, more than 200 participants from more than 15 countries, starting from Latvia's neighboring countries to more distant regions, such as the United States of America, Canada, Australia, and China have signed up. The focus of this year's forum will be on new opportunities for Latvia's export diversification, attracting foreign investments, and strengthening entrepreneurial culture in Latvia.

Are we ready for CETA and TTIP? - Trade tools for success. This topic will be explored in a debate during the WLEIF on July 10, moderated by President of AmCham Latvia Arnis Kakulis who said: "If Latvia could tap into even 1% of this EU/US trade value, our trade with the US would be 22 times larger than it is currently."

Panelists will include Uldis Sipols, Vice President of Sonoco, which is a multi-billion dollar global provider of consumer packaging, industrial products, and protective solutions (USA), Imants Purvs, Latvian Honorary Consul in Canada and Director of Lettonia Trading Inc. (Canada), Juris Blodnieks, President of the Latvian American Shipping Line, Matiss Kukainis, Partner at Law Firm Spīgulis & Kukainis, Attorney at Law (Latvia) and Peteris Žimants, Chairman of the Board of Pure Chocolate (Latvia).

How are we to tap into this immense trade flow? Can Latvian companies take advantage of these free trade agreements? How will US and Canadian businesses take advantage of this agreement as it relates to investment in Latvia? These are some of the questions that will be explored in the session „Are we ready for TTIP and CETA? - Trade tools for success.
