Looking back at the first half of 2023

Aug 30, 2023

On August 29, the AmCham board and staff held its semi-annual retreat at Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga to discuss the Chamber's current strategy and priorities for 2023 aligning them with our 30th Anniversary year. The policy priorities include:

  • Fostering trade and investment between Latvia and the U.S. and raising awareness of economic opportunities between our countries by proactively promoting Latvia as a U.S. investment destination, exploring FDI attraction, and prioritizing U.S. investment attraction and supporting activities of partner organizations (the World Latvian Economic Forum, Spotlight Latvia).
  • Improving the business and investment climate in Latvia with a focus on updating tax legislation to ease the tax burden for foreign investors, supporting economic transformation, and increasing national competitiveness. The topics will focus on sustainability, digital transition, and human capital, fostering greater social engagement to support Latvian civil society and charities.
  • Enhancing Latvia’s human capital with a focus on promoting upskilling, education, and the future of work, raising awareness of Latvia as an international career destination, supporting Latvia’s healthcare policy improvements to improve health outcomes focusing on sustainable healthcare funding, value-based healthcare, and digital health.

The Chamber held a discussion on sustainability "Making the business case for ESG" in collaboration and is planning a Human Capital conference in November. The Chamber has raised above mentioned priorities in various discussions with the Ministers of Finance, Economy, Education, and Health as well as closest partners the U.S. Embassy, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, Riga Investment Agency Embassy, and the Foreign Investor's Council in Latvia.

The Board meets twice a year outside its monthly meetings for a focused, strategic session to set the future direction and to review the Chamber's performance.
