Call for nominations for Human Development Award

AmCham, the U.S. Embassy in Latvia and the Civic Alliance of Latvia are delighted to announce the 3rd Annual Human Development Award to be held in 2016. The purpose of the award is to promote human development, prosperity and well-being of Latvia's people.

According to Patron of the Human Development Award, President of Latvia, HE Raimonds Vējonis, "The Human Development Award covers many relevant long-term development areas for Latvia, while each nomination highlights significant work to the benefit of community by a person, company, or organization. I am pleased for each and every contribution, in addition to recognizing how great, smart, and entrepreneurial people reside in Latvia!"

US Ambassador to Latvia, Nancy Bikoff Pettit says: "It is a privilege for the American Embassy in Latvia to support the Human Development Awards and to recognize the individuals and organizations that are leading the way in building a stronger, more prosperous society. These awards are an important opportunity to honor those who are really making a positive difference in their communities."

We are now seeking nominations to highlight achievements of individuals, businesses, and organizations that have significantly contributed to human development. Nominations will be accepted starting today, January 11 until February 11, in the following categories:

1. Social Responsibility Award for excellence in the development of society through exceptional generosity and commitment of time, expertise and financial or organizational support.
2. Outstanding Commitment to Education Award for improving the quality of and access to education and training that enhances the well-being of people from all walks of life, and promotes education as a life-long process.
3. Exemplary Contribution to Health and Well-Being Award for promotion of healthy living, and supporting and improving access to healthcare and the well-being of communities and individuals, and reducing health inequalities.
4. The Future of Latvia Award for the enhancement of youth and children's welfare, healthy development and their rights to grow up in a loving and stable environment, including in foster and guardian families.

Winners will receive the sculpture "Sprout" designed by artist Olga Silova, recognition and promotion of their initiative, in addition to invitation to the Awards Ceremony on April 15, 2016 with the opportunity to meet high-level officials and professionals. Winners may also receive other special prizes.

Nominees' accomplishments will be evaluated by a jury of recognized experts, representing partner organizations, previous HDA winners and other representatives from Latvian society, based on the criteria, including impact, sustainability, innovation and inspiration.

The application deadline is February 11, 2016. You are welcome to nominate your candidate, however, please note that self-nominations will not be accepted. Winners of past years may not be nominated again. The lists of Human Development Award 2014 and 2015 winners are available here:

Latvian citizens as well as businesses or organizations registered in Latvia may be nominated. Please consider nominating candidates yourself and feel free to forward this message to your network as we seek a broad range of applicants from all regions of Latvia.
