Bettering life for little patients

Aug 14, 2023

The Children's Hospital Foundation, an organization taking care of children's health through raising help from general public, is looking for donations for the new campaign for furnishing and equipping the building of the new Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine Center of the Children's Hospital as well as for “Boxes of Bravery” – boxes with small gifts that are given to hospital patients after overcoming medical examinations or other procedures.

Children's Hospital Foundation will soon announce the donation campaign for furnishing and equipping the building of the new Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine Center of the Children's Hospital. Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological diseases in both children and adults, while sleep disorders are one of the most frequently underestimated health problems. Studies show that 1-2% of the world's population suffers from epilepsy, but sleep disorders affect up to 12% of children every day. Since 2016, the Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine Center has been operating at the Children's Hospital, which has already become a leader in the Baltic States, and last year, treatment and examinations were already performed on 300 patients. However, since epilepsy and sleep examinations require special conditions, the center is no longer able to meet the growing demand in a sufficient volume, therefore the construction of a new center is quite crucial. The total area of the new center's premises will be 394 m2, and it will be possible to perform complex examinations for up to 700-1000 patients per year, and standard examinations for about 3000-4000, which is 2-3 times more than before. However, the funds available to the hospital are unfortunately not able to cover all the costs related to setting up the center (purchase of medical equipment, functional beds and furniture), thus the Foundation will attract support from entrepreneurs and the community.

The Foundation also continues to collect donations for already well-known campaign "Boxes of Bravery", which provide very valuable encouragement and happiness to patients who are undergoing treatment at the Children's Hospital. As the funds donated around Christmas time run out in the middle of summer, the Foundation welcomes companies who are willing to organize donation campaigns within their companies thus helping to fill the “Boxes of Bravery”.
