Eco Bus, Aerones and Marine Digital win Baltic Sustainability Awards

AmCham was an Ecosystem Partner of the second edition of Baltic Sustainability Awards and also contributed in the selection of the winners of Impact caregory represented by jury member Liene Dubava, AmCham Vice President. Over 240 applications were submitted and 29 outstanding sustainability innovation achievements were selected. 10 winners, including Aerones, Eco Bus, Marine Digital and Daniels Truksans representing Latvia, won the award this year.

Aerones won awards in two categories – Green Innovation among startups and the Renewable Energy sub-category of Environmental Impact. The robotic solution developed and manufactured by Aerones for the remote inspection, maintenance and repair of wind turbines was highly appreciated, as it is more efficient than previous traditional methods. The Environmental Impact Award in the Sustainable Cities and Mobility sub-category went to the Latvian company Eco Bus, which has developed technology for converting diesel buses into electric buses. The company proposes a way to make vehicles more environmentally friendly while also saving costs.

Another Latvian startup, Marine Digital, was awarded the prize in the Supply Chains sub-category of Environmental Impact.

A jury determined the winners in the Environmental Impact and Green Innovation categories, while the winners in the Ambassadors of Change category were determined by a public vote held simultaneously in all three Baltic States online and during the event. This year, Daniels Truksans, Head of the EcoSchools Programme in Latvia, was selected as Latvia’s most inspiring sustainability leader. He has dedicated the last 12 years to promoting the inclusion of environmental and sustainability education in school curricula.

  • Innovation category for Enterprises: Fibenol;
  • Innovation category for Startups: Aerones Engineering;
  • Impact category in Social initiatives: Oxylabs;
  • Impact category in Supply chain: Marine Digital;
  • Impact category in Sustainable resources: UP Catalyst;
  • Impact category in Sustainable cities & Mobility: ECO BUS;
  • Impact category in Renewable energy: Aerones Engineering;
  • Changemakers: Tarvo Ong in Estonia, Daniels Truksans in Latvia, and Gediminas Kondrackis in Lithuania.

The Baltic Sustainability Awards recognizes the Baltic leaders in sustainable innovation – companies, organizations, startups and individuals who inspire others with their sustainability achievements. 2022 saw the second edition of the event organized by the innovation management company Helve in cooperation with its partner Rimi Baltic. This year, the award was open to entries in eight categories – Environmental Impact with sub-categories in Renewable Energy, Sustainable Resources, Mobility, Supply Chains and Social Initiatives; Green Innovations for companies and startups, as well as Ambassadors of Change to recognize individual achievements. An international jury evaluated the submissions on the basis of a methodology developed by strategic partner EY Baltic.

Baltic Sustainability Awards are hosted by Helve together with founding partner Rimi Baltic. The initiative is supported by strategic methodology partner EY and partners Dokobit, Baltic Block, Signet Bank and Sorainen, informative partners IR Nauda, Clear Chanel and Delfi, and their friends at Kalve Coffee Roasters, Mežpils and Ziedu Ekspresis.
