AmCham looks back at a succesful year amid crisis

AmCham held its 27th Annual General Meeting to review the past year’s activities, elect the Board of Directors and make other important decisions for the business continuity. U.S. Ambassador Carwile opened the meeting with remarks, stressing the importance of AmCham's advocacy activities and the close cooperation between the Embassy and AmCham in the last year. AmCham President Ingrida Karina-Berzina stepped down after 7 years of service. We are extremely grateful to Ingrida for her strong commitment and leadership! We welcome Dita Sile of Novartis as the newest addition to our Board and congratulate Liene Dubava, George Miu and Renate Strazdina on re-election! To see the current Board.

Over 30 members of the Pan-Baltic network of AmChams in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania joined our first online Business After Hours hosted by excellent coaches Elena Zlygosteva and Artur Chernikau of TeamLead who led a timely discussion on extraordinary leadership in today's challenging environment.

The wind of change is here

Martins Kazaks, Governor of the Central Bank of Latvia gave an overview on recent economic and financial trends for over 60 AmCham members and guests. He emphasized that global economy is still slightly growing despite volatility in the financial markets brought by the coronavirus outbreak and will leave its impact on the economic growth projections for Latvia this year. Transatlantic Economy 2020 explores implications of COVID-19 pandemic

AmCham EU has published Transatlantic Economy 2020 study with annual survey of jobs, trade and investment between the United States and Europe. The edition stresses the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic on both the European and U.S. economies.

AmCham supports Latvian government in efforts to moderate the impact of the virus

AmCham fully supports the strong and decisive action taken by the Latvian government to moderate the impact of the spread of COVID-19. On March 19, AmCham sent a letter to the government and the Saeima Economic Commission calling to implement comprehensive measures in the area of fiscal, monetary, sectoral, employment and social policies to minimize the negative impact on the economy.

Johnson & Johnson is mobilizing resources of its Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies in response to the outbreak to develop a possible preventive vaccine candidate against SARS-CoV-2, leveraging Janssen's AdVac® and PER.C6® technology, that provide the ability to rapidly upscale production of the optimal vaccine candidate.

 
 
Novartis supports clinical trials for the treatment of COVID-19

Novartis has announced broad range of initiatives in response to COVID-19 Pandemic, including donation of up to 130 million doses of hydroxychloroquine and creation of USD 20 million global fund to support impacted communities.

 
 
Bite Latvija donates 1000 smart devices for children

Recently Bite Latvija donated 1000 smart devices to those children who are lacking them for distance learning and all of them will be distributed to children throughout Latvia with the help of the Ministry of Education and Science.

 
 
Exonicus ranked 3rd in virtual Hackathon

Exonicus team was ranked 3rd in the first virtual hackathon in Latvia HackForce that was aimed to find solutions for the crisis caused by coronavirus. Exonicus team is currently working on a video simulation program for the development of a training scenario, which will be distributed immediately throughout Latvia through the Infectology and Disease Prevention and Control Center.
