The role of the private sector in tackling corruption

Jul 02, 2019 from 08:00 till 09:30
Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga, Apsazijas blvd. 22

On July 2, AmCham members met with Jekabs Straume, the Chief of Anti-Corruption Agency (KNAB) of Latvia. Mr. Straume presented the current priorities of KNAB and discussed how the private sector can assist tackling corruption.

The Chief of KNAB admitted that further strengthening of both investigative and analytical capacity is necessary. Increasing inter-agency cooperation to fight complex corruption crimes was emphasized as one of the key challenges going forward.

Members engaged in a lively discussion addressing such issues as the culture of impunity, slow justice, low social trust, education of law enforcement officials, introducing the lobbying regulation and the role of KNAB in preventing corruption.

Among AmCham's key priorities is improving the investment climate in Latvia by advocating for a more transparent and fair business environment.

Presentation of Jekabs Straume is available here
