On December 13, members were honored to meet Christopher Robinson, U.S. Ambassador to Latvia who share his insights on the U.S.-Latvia bilateral relations and the future of transatlantic partnership and security in these challenging times.
Ambassador emphasized that Latvia is a safe place to do business and the country has made enormous progress to improve the efficiency of the banking systems. However, according to the World Competitiveness Ranking Latvia is lagging behind its closest neighbors, and areas of improvement are as follows: accessibility to banking services, energy security, investment in education, R&D, and a skillful workforce as well as continuing the fight against corruption.
According to the Ambassador: "Latvia's long-term security depends on fostering a prosperous and open economy that grows the wealth of its citizens and attracts Western investment. Latvia can count on the United States to be a dependable, trusted partner in pursuit of these goals."
Ambassador Robinson was sworn in as the Ambassador to Latvia earlier this year. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, he most recently served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. Prior to that, he was Minister Counselor for Political Affairs at U.S. Embassy in Russia. His other assignments include Austria, Nicaragua, Iraq, Belarus, Canada, and assignments in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs and the Bureau of European Affairs.
