Martins Stakis, Mayor of Riga addressed over 70 members and guests on his vision to reshape the capital of Latvia into a well-governed, sustainable, accessible and connected city offering the best quality of life. He outlined his priorities: identifying corruption risks, ensuring good governance, improving traffic and housing infrastructure.
According to Mr. Stakis, his ojective is to establish a municipality governed by the rule of law. He aims at reorganizing several boards and departments in order to implement best governance practices in the municipal enterprises. The Riga Tourism Development Bureau is being reorganized into the Riga investment agency to be launched in May 2021 to focus more on attracting investment to the city. He emphasized that major part of the budget for 2021 will be used to support the following areas: infrastructure, education, social security and the environment.
Mayor Stakis engaged in a lively discussion with members and answered a lot of questions. We would like to thank the Mayor for the opportunity to hear from him directly and our members for their active participation!
We re-affirm our commitment to the values that AmCham stands for and that we share.
