Thank you for a fantastic year! With 3000+ attendees, 50 events and 20+ new members 2019 has been one of the most successful years for AmCham. We launched a Healthcare working group, issued two position papers and promoted five advocacy topics. Together with our partners we co-hosted the American-Latvian Innovation Award and Human Development Award. Thank you to our dedicated Board members, working group representatives, partners, speakers and most importantly, our members! AmCham welcomes new U.S. Ambassador
Our top-tier members had an exclusive opportunity to meet new U.S. Ambassador to Latvia, John Carwile who shared his main priorities and engaged into a frank discussion with members emphasizing the strong and enduring partnership between the U.S. and Latvia.

Kicking off the holiday giving season
AmCham raised EUR 1350 at its annual Christmas Charity reception for its principal charities. In total EUR 3250 has been donated to Bezvests.lv, RMHC Latvija, SOS Children Villages and Latvian Foster Families this year. Over 70 adults and 30 children joined our festive Christmas event offering various activities for children, including a visit from Santa, Christmas crafts, gingerbread workshop and marshmallow roasting.

Transforming customer experience
December Business After Hours was hosted by Luminor customer center Terbata where members had chance to hear the economic forecast for 2020 from leading economist Peteris Strautins and find out more about the transformation process at Luminor from its Country Manager in Latvia, Kerli Gabrilovica.

Citadele and Novartis are Members of the Year
The Member of the Year Award recognizes particular members who have gone the extra mile in supporting AmCham in the past year. Members of the Year are Citadele banka and Novartis Baltics who have been the most active and engaged members throughout 2019. These companies helped facilitate our mission to foster US-Latvia business ties and build a better business environment.

Obstacles to hiring international talent removed
On Tuesday, December 10, the Cabinet of Ministers supported the removal of several bureaucratic obstacles to hiring international talent. We would like to thank and congratulate our Labor working group, and especially, Irina Kostina (Ellex Klavins) who contributed to the positive outcome of these long-awaited amendments!

Healthcare continues to be a hot topic
Members came together for the 10th meeting of the working group this year to discuss next steps and actions for implementing an Oncology Data Registry Design Thinking Seminar and started planning a conference on data-driven healthcare, which will be held on April 29 together with the Ministry of Health.

Baltic-American Dialogue program open for applications
Public organizations (all NGO sector) are invited to apply for Baltic-American Dialogue program to receive financial support up to 10 000 USD to host speakers from the U.S. to travel to Baltics. Applicant organizations are encouraged to design projects and invite experts to address the interests of their unique constituencies. Application deadline is February 1. Apply here!

The dispute settlement crisis in WTO
The World Trade Organization (WTO) is facing a crisis in its system for resolving disputes between its members. As of December 10, the WTO Appellate Body is under critical demise, as the organization's Appeal Court is invalidated. The WTO collapse is the consequence of the U.S.' decision to invoke its veto powers and not appoint new judges to the Appellate Body.
