Rebuilding trust in Latvia as an attractive investment opportunity

Prime Minister Kariņš addressed close to 200 members and guests of 5 Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Latvia during the luncheon where investors raised a number of critical issues: corruption, labor shortage, quality of education and spillover effects associated with reforms related to the financial sector.

 
 
Advancing well-being, empowering others

For the 6th consecutive year the Human Development Award was hosted by AmCham Latvia, the Civic Alliance in Latvia and the U.S. Embassy in Latvia. Winners of this year's Award are: Enģeļa pasts, ĢBAC Brīnumiņš, RTU Engineering High School and SOS Children's Villages in Latvia.

 
 
21 jobs of the future

September Business After Hours, hosted by Cognizant, offered members the chance to learn more about Cognizant's vision on the future of work. Work is changing due to automation and AI, but won't go away. Based on the major trends, Cognizant has come up with 21 new job roles that they believe will emerge over the next 10 years. Leadership driven by purpose

The next generation of business leaders are motivated by a sense of purpose. Graham Bird (UK), Fellow of Oxford Leadership provided a full day training at the very first AmCham Academy workshop. The AmCham Academy aims at helping leaders stay relevant in today’s changing business environment, refresh their skills and expertise critical to lead teams of various sizes and achieve their business goals.

 
 
Premiere of Spēlēju, Dancoju

On September 26, AmCham members and friends spent an opening night of the new production of I Played, I Danced ("Spēlēju, Dancoju") by Imants Kalnins, Imants Ziedonis and Rainis at the Latvian National Opera with an exclusive reception at the Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga. 70 people attended this highly popular program.

Next step in healthcare

Members of the AmCham Healthcare work group have prepared a vision statement and certain pilot projects for sustainable reforms in healthcare benefitting everyone. Our shared vision is longer and healthier lives for our society and better patient outcomes as the ultimate goal. It will be published soon.

 
 
Members visit private medical institutions

On September 3, members of the American, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish Chambers of Commerce had a chance to visit seven Latvian medical institutions, including My Clinic Riga, Capital Clinic Riga, Orto Clinic, Diagnostic clinic ARS, Latvian American Eye Center, IVF Riga and Era Esthetique to learn what they can offer to local and international customers. The event was primarily designed for members from the tourism and hospitality industry.

Innovative hi-tech for U.S. Army medics

Madigan's Emergency Medicine Research Department initiated Trauma Simulator project developed by our member Exonicus, Inc. and brought this virtual training to Iraq in 2018 to help downrange medical providers keep their trauma. Watch the video!

Welcome to our latest newsletter. We had a very busy start of the season with the joint luncheon with Prime Minister Kariņš discussing issues directly affecting foreign investors' willingness to invest in Latvia. Fighting corruption, labor force shortage, quality of education and finance sector reforms were among main topics addressed. For the 6th consecutive year we were proud to continue co-hosting the Human Develolpment Award to honor inspirational people and organizations of Latvia. We held the very first AmCham Academy workshop and thanks to our member Cognizant learned more about 21 new job roles of the future.
