Fairer taxes to make the country more competitive
Becoming more competitive in the region, making taxation fairer and less complicated have been the cornerstones of the proposed tax reform. Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Atis Zakatistovs explained the benefits of the upcoming changes in the taxation policy and the need to lessen existing tax regimes and generally focus on better expenditure management in the public sector.

3 Seas Virtual Summit
This year Three Seas Virtual Summit was streamlined from Tallinn with the focus on creative ideas for transformation. The aim of the Three Seas Initiative is to enhance energy, transport, and digital infrastructure across the Three Seas region. Latvia was represented by its highest officials: President Egils Levits, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rinkevics and Juris Puce, Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development.

AmCham unveils recommendations to improve Oncology Data Registry
AmCham has concluded an extensive study in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, National Health Service and other stakeholders aiming at improving the Oncology Data Registry. On October 15, the results were presented to the leaders of sector. Among the proposals are improving the existing system so that data from clinics are automatically transferred to national register PREDA, streamlining processes, improving content and ensuring data synchronization across different systems. The ultimate goal is to create new oncology data entry process with an entirely new tool which would ensure the input and use of meaningful, qualitative data that will improve patient outcomes, advance research and health policy planning.

Addressing tourism challenges
Following the last meeting of the Joint Chamber Tourism working group, members of the American, Norwegian and Swedish chambers met with Inese Sirava, Director of LIAA Tourism department to discuss the available support mechanisms, adjustments in the tourism marketing plan as well as other topicalities in the current crisis-related circumstances.

FICIL work group update
The Foreign Investors Council in Latvia or FICIL is one of AmCham's closest advocacy partners. You are invited to take part in one of its many working groups. The following WGs have scheduled meetings in February 2021: healthcare, labor force, investment protection and court efficiency as well as tax policy and administration. Moody's upgrades Citadele credit rating to investment grade
On 29 September 2020, international credit rating agency Moody's has upgraded the credit rating of AS "Citadele banka" to investment grade, assigning Baa3 rating with stable outlook. In the first half of 2020, Citadele Group's capital adequacy ratio was 21.0%, Group's deposits were EUR 3.65 billion, and the net loan portfolio reached EUR 1.50 billion.

CBRE Baltics MarketView: investment volume down 11%
The pandemic had a significant effect on the commercial real estate market in Europe and the Baltics. The investment volume in Europe for the first nine months reached EUR 184 bln, 11% down from the same period last year. In the Baltics for the first three quarters the investment market contracted more than one third to EUR 471 mln y-o-y.
