Building social responsibility on a daily basis

Dec 18, 2014

During 2014 GlaxoSmithKline Latvia (GSK Latvia) has implemented several CSR projects, continuing to build its social responsibility and reputation:

  • Supported educational initiative Mission Possible (Iespējamā Misija) - GSK's contribution has been recognized by a recognition letter of the President of Latvia with a special reception hosted by the President Andris Bērziņš for sponsors of Mission Possible;
  • Implemented Orange Day - annual one day long volunteering initiative of GSK employees providing support to socially neglected groups. This year, once again, in co-operation with Roja region Social Services Department, GSK identified elderly individuals that would benefit from the company`s assistance. They undertook a range of tasks throughout the day, including chopping and stacking firewood, cutting down dead trees etc.
  • Implemented two projects within Small Grants Program that was launched by GSK Latvia in 2012. The program supports projects and initiatives of employees in collaboration with non-governmental and non-profit organizations to advance social goals. They invested their time, knowledge and skills in supporting two community initiatives - helped to establish LEGO play-room in Zvannieki - privately funded organization - Alternative Family Home that is run by volunteers and supports children in need, that mostly hail from rural areas of Latvia. In addition their employees also donated LEGO toys for this purpose. As well as contributed to the creation of website www.vezisunberni.lv - owned by NGO Blastiņš (organization of parents of children suffering from haematology-oncology diseases).

General Manager of GSK Latvia Christina Nesheva: "We are a compact and committed team in Latvia and we continue to strive to do more to make a positive impact - economically, socially and environmentally. Our social responsibility contribution would not have been possible without the hard work and passion of our employees in Latvia, who drive this work on daily basis."
