On May 8, the U.S. Embassy in Latvia hosted a promotional seminar on "Doing Business in the USA" provided by Avitus Group. The participants of Gateway to the USA program were invited to attend.

Launch of Latvian-American Innovation Award

To highlight and promote entrepreneurship, research-driven innovation, and closer economic ties between Latvia and the United States, the Baltic American Freedom Foundation, the U.S. Embassy in Riga and AmCham Latvia, together with TechHub Riga and the Latvian Startup Association, have established the Latvian-American Innovation Award. The winner will receive 10,000 and a runner-up 5,000 Euro. Applications are due by May 17, 2018.

#Refuse the straw

Radisson Hotels in Riga celebrated Earth Day on April 22 together with more than a billion people across the globe with an aim to fundamentally change people's attitude and behavior towards plastic. To focus consumer attention on the issue of plastic straws and their effects on the environment, hotels took measures to raise consumer awareness that includes displays and signage in public areas, with the tagline #RefuseTheStraw.

Valmiera Glass expands in USA

On 11 April, Valmieras Stikla Škiedra celebrated the launch of the new P-D VALMIERA GLASS USA Corp. plant in Dublin, Georgia. The company has invested more than 100 million USD and created over 500 new jobs in the U.S. becoming historically largest Latvian investment project in the United States.

To commemorate the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of AmCham Latvia, a special black tie dinner was held with Minister of Economics, Arvils Aseradens and U.S. Ambassador to Latvia, Nancy Bikoff Pettit. Check out video and photos from this spectacular event!

Members of foreign chambers in Latvia had a chance to meet the 20th General of The Salvation Army on April 19. One of the largest charity organizations presented their global structure and approach along with the history and progress of the local chapter.
