AmCham urges to adopt Whistleblower protection law
On September 18, AmCham Latvia sent a letter to the Saeima pointing out the necessity to adopt the Whistleblower Protection Law in Latvia until the end of the current Saeima's term. According to AmCham President Arnis Kakulis, "Whistleblower protection is a significant tool for combatting corruption, bribery, fraud and other illegal acts in both the public and private sectors. In the long term the creation of such an institution will only benefit both businesses and public interests and will help to promote a healthy corporate culture of accountability and integrity."

Your input on tax deductions for charitable giving requested
AmCham has received suggestions from several members to look at the impact of the new tax system on donations to public benefit organizations. According to a recent survey, corporate donations have declined by 38% y-o-y to date. If you have comments or recommendations on this matter, please share them with us.

Accenture opens brand new office in Teika
Accenture Latvia that currently employs more than 1550 employees in Latvia, decided to open a new office with 500 work places in New Teika, in the office of 4,000 square meters of 16-story building Teodors.

Kronbergs Čukste Derling joins LEVIN Law network of law firms
Kronbergs Čukste Derling has announced that their law firm has joined a new pan-Baltic advocate network, LEVIN Law. Kronbergs Čukste LEVIN is a member of LEVIN network of law firms which also includes Glikman Alvin LEVIN in Estonia and Dominas LEVIN in Lithuania.

Blackstone invests EUR 1 billion in Luminor
On September 13, Luminor has announced a new strategic investor - Blackstone investment fund with EUR 1 billion investment. Nordea and DNB have entered into an agreement to jointly sell 60 percent of Luminor to Blackstone. As a result of the transaction, each of Nordea and DNB will hold 20 percent of Luminor.

SEB bank: Financial literacy starts in schools
In the last three years SEB professionals have visited 500 schools in the Baltics, giving over 1000 lessons on financial literacy to more than 21 000 kids.

Bringing Latvians back home
The social movement "Latvija Strādā", uniting Latvia-based employers, is eager to contribute to the current remigration tendencies. The goal of the movement is to return at least 1000 nationals to the Latvian labor market in a year. Up to now 78 employers have pledged to return 272 people, and more than 40 people have returned and are currently working in Latvia.
