Around 50 members of the American and Norwegian Chambers of Commerce and the Association of Business Service Leaders (ABSL) engaged in a timely discussion with business leaders and experts from Tieto EVRY, Your Move and Printify about main challenges and practical solutions regarding employer branding, internal mobility, remigrant and immigrant employee attraction. Toward excellence in education
The Minister of Education and Science addressed members on her priorities in ensuring high-quality education. She elaborated on the Ministry's plan to implement "School 2030" and reform the governance model in higher education. She also touched upon the improvement of digital skills for teachers offering them programs to improve digital competence.

Priorities for 2020
The AmCham Board held its semi-annual retreat to discuss the strategic direction for 2020. Among key priority areas will be the enhancement of transatlantic trade and investment between Latvia and the US, improving the investment and business climate in Latvia, including addressing the challenges of new compliance framework in the financial sector, attracting international talent - Latvia as a career destination and improving health outcomes of Latvia's society.

New Chair for AmChams in Europe
Susan Danger, CEO of AmCham EU has been elected Chair of the AmChams in Europe network. AmChams in Europe is the umbrella organization for 45 AmChams from 43 countries around Europe by representing the interests of more than 17,000 American and European companies employing 20 mln workers. In her role, Susan aims to continue to engage and speak out in turbulent times for the transatlantic relationship.

On January 9, Thomas Donohue, CEO of U.S. Chamber of Commerce gave the annual State of American Business address, where he outlined top priorities for the business community in the coming year: the need for trade policy certainty, prospective new trade negotiations with the UK and EU, China’s unfair trading practices, reforming the WTO and its Appellate Body, data privacy and digital trade. SMEs will get support to access capital markets
Eversheds Sutherland Bitāns participated in the development of the EU support fund program of EBRD and the Ministry of Economy to help SMEs access capital markets. It will be implemented as a pilot project for this EU planning period and aims to support 20 SMEs over the next three years in amount of one million euros.

McHappy Day raises over €44 000 for Care Mobile
The most successful McDonald's charity campaign "McHappy Day" has completed with an amazing result - €44 718 that has been raised to support the RMHC Latvia's Care Mobile program. These funds will be used to cover 4800 free medical consultations to children around Latvia.

Latvian investment climate still average
In the latest FICIL Sentiment index foreign investors concluded that Latvian investment climate was still average. The Index is an annual study capturing opinions of about 50 largest foreign investors about the business and investment environment in Latvia. It includes investors' main concerns and outlines their plans of future investments.
