In order to promote bilateral trade and investment between Latvia and the U.S. and to encourage Latvian companies to do business in the U.S. AmCham Latvia together with the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry launches a joint program entitled Gateway to the USA.

Diving into numbers: The year in trade

The U.S. Chamber has released data on the U.S. trade statistics in 2015. Although the U.S. exports have declined for the first time since the recession, the EU collectively remained the U.S. #1 trading partner.

Martin Gauss, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Executive Board of airBaltic spoke at the AmCham February luncheon on recent developments in the company, including the signing of the investment agreement just one day ago.

New EU-US agreement for data transfers reached

On February 2nd, the US and EU reached a deal on a new Safe Harbour agreement to govern data transfers between the regions, naming the deal the EU-US Privacy Shield. The agreement will make it easier for companies to transfer data between Europe and the US.

Members of the Tourism and hospitality industry met to discuss the challenges for positioning Latvia as a tourism destination, especially for the US market. It was agreed that members will create recommendations regarding the tourism development and marketing of Latvia to be submitted to policy-makers.

More light on TTIP

The recently published study “TTIP and the EU Member States” explores impact of a future TTIP agreement on the EU’s 28 Member States, and also outlines the overall impact of TTIP for the EU and makes policy recommendations.

FICIL invites to join their working groups

AmCham as an Associate member of Foreign Investors Council in Latvia, including a number of our members, is actively involved in its working groups aiming at proposing constructive recommendations to the government on a wide variety of issues.
